About Charging Speed
(Power in kW):
Did you know?
Your Vehicle ALWAYS Determines the Maximum Possible Charging Speed.
Know the Maximum Charging Speed of Your Vehicle by consulting the Owners Manual.
This can Range from 50kW to 350kW in Power.
A Charge Point will Usually State the Maximum Power it Can Deliver.
You will see 50kW 75Kw 150kW 300kWand 360kW units. These are 'UP TO' Values or Peak Values ONLY. Peak Speeds only occur for a short time. The Average
Power delivered is usually between 60-120kW in the UK (2024)
Your State of Charge % when Plugging in also affects the
Maximum Speed you will experience.
It depends where in the Charging Curve your Charging Session begins.
From 10% Battery to 80% Battery will take around 30 Minutes* at a 150kW Chargepoint.
At a Maximum rated TESLA V4 250kW Supercharger you can add between 160-170 Miles in 15 Minutes with a Suitably capable Vehicle.
NOTE: The Temperature of Your Battery affects the Maximum Charging Speed. Always Pre-heat your Battery en-route to Maximise the Power level you will obtain from the Charge Point. Navigate to the Chargepoint using your in-car system so the Car prepares the Battery in Advance of your Charging Session.
If You meet the Conditions above and do not receive the expected Charging Power - Move your Vehicle to a different Chargepoint. Report any anomalies to the Charge Point Operator via their Free phone 24 Hour helpline.
Real World Speed Tested by us since 2020.
